For more than 27 years, Esprit de Four has offered this one day course to introduce drivers with little or no experience to off highway driving and safety. More experienced drivers get the opportunity to learn and practice four wheeling skills. All participants get a better understanding of what they and their vehicles are capable of, while driving in various types of terrain in a controlled environment. All levels of driver experience & ALMOST all four wheel drive vehicles having a LOW RANGE are welcome.

All participants get a better understanding of what they and their vehicles are capable of, while driving in various types of terrain in a controlled environment. Experienced guides and instructors provide:

  • Classroom instruction

  • Demonstration of recovery techniques

  • One-on-one instruction on practical obstacles

  • Guided trail runs on trails rated easy to moderate

  • Communication with trail guides via FRS Radio

PLEASE NOTE: REFUND POLICY: Esprit de Four does not offer refunds for cancellations or scheduling conflicts. We do offer the option to reschedule for the next Clinic should a conflict arise. The option to reschedule is limited to 1 year (2 Clinics).

IMPORTANT:

  • Due to liability, this course is limited to drivers with a valid driver's license.

  • Minors with a valid driver's license may attend if accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.  No Learner's Permits.

  • Due to space limitations, the classroom session is limited to drivers. Minors or pets cannot be left unattended during the classroom session.  

  • The vehicle you intend to operate at the Safety Clinic MUST have a LOW RANGE TRANSFER CASEVehicles without a low range transfer case are not suitable for this course.

    • IF YOUR VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A LOW RANGE TRANSFER CASE, PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT (See "REFUND POLICY" above).

  • Some "Crossover" type vehicles, especially those with running boards, may not have sufficient ground clearance to negotiate all course obstacles without damage to the vehicle.

  • Sorry, but at this time no RZR, side-by-sides, buggies or golf carts.

  • EXCESSIVELY TALL vehicles (monster trucks, "Sportsmobile" type vans, pickups with high top camper shells, etc.) MAY NOT have sufficient overhead clearance to navigate the trails included in this course.

  • SCRATCHES, DENTS, OR WORSE ARE POSSIBLE. Participation is at DRIVER'S OWN RISK.

 HELPFUL PRELIMINARY INFORMATION:

  • VEHICLE INSPECTION CHECKLIST (Will be inspected by Esprit de Four staff; must pass inspection for participation in the clinic).  Most street legal vehicles will pass. 

  • All participating vehicles must be street legal or meet “green sticker” vehicle requirements.

  • Additionally, it is expected that all vehicles should include the following required equipment (Compliance on all points is at the sole discretion of Esprit de Four staff):

  • Required Items

    • Roll bar, full cage, or factory hardtop

    • Functional parking brake or Micro Lock equivalent

    • Seat belts for all occupants & passengers

    • Antenna(s) must not exceed 4’-6" (54”), or must be secured safely to avoid injury

    • Adequate attachment point front & rear (tow hooks, etc.)

    • Battery hold downs — OEM or aftermarket battery containment systems in good repair are acceptable. No bungee cords

    • Approved exhaust system. No open headers

    • Current drivers license

    • Proof of Insurance

    • PRINTED, COMPLETED and SIGNED Registration Form & Agreement of Participation
      (Supplied in Student Packet that will be about a month before the Clinic. Do this before hand, and bring it to the Clinic. It's very hard to write on wet picnic tables at 7am.)

  • WHAT TO BRING:

    • Valid driver's license for all drivers (Required). No Learner's Permits. 

    • Printed, Completed and Signed Safety Clinic Registration Form and liability waiver (Required - Included in the Student Packet.)

    • Proof of auto insurance - printed or screenshot (Required)

    • LUNCH – (Important – There is no time to drive to town, and no food facilities on-site.)

    • SNACKS - (Helpful) - you are going to need an energy boost about 3pm.

    • Plenty of fluids to stay hydrated (Important - at least 2 Liters of water per person!)

    • Proper attire (Important - Dress in layers. Mornings can be chilly and midday very hot.) BE ADVISED, POISON OAK IS PREVALENT IN THE AREA AND ALONG TRAILS. Take proper precautions.

    • FRS radio if you have one (Required - We have some available to lend to students). CB and Ham radios are optional.

    • Tire gauge (Important - We will be “airing down” for the trails, so if you have means of quick deflation, bring those as well.)

    • Fuel for the day (Required - Fuel up on the way into the class. No fuel available on-site.)

    • Camera (Helpful)

    • Sun screen (Important)

    • Hat (Important)

    • Bug spray (Helpful)

    • Items required on vehicle inspection list above (Required)

    • Positive attitude and a sense for adventure (Required!)

No alcohol allowed during the Clinic: either in class, on the trails or at the obstacles.

No firearms allowed - State Park rules

All dogs must be on a leash - State Park rules
